Junior Leader Training Conference has a new name and a new focus!
Why do we need a new National Youth Leadership Training Course?
There are several reasons, but mainly the material was dated (more than 30 years old). The focus in the past was on the eleven leadership skills which is a command and control approach. Today’s leader needs to know how to work with a team. The new course teaches individual skills and team skills.

This change aligns what youth are learning and using with what adults learn and use from the 21st Century Wood Badge. We want to speak the same language in leadership training.

Why is there a new name?
There is new material and a new focus. Scouts and adults didn’t care for the name "Junior." The National Youth Leadership Training program should be the same across the country, with the same name and recognition.

An overview of the course:
Through activities, events, games, and adventures, National Youth Leadership Training participants will work and play together as they put into action the best Scouting has to offer.
  • A month in the life of a troop

  • Patrols experiencing the stages of team development

  • A toolbox of leadership shills

Is there a post-conference ticket?
No.

What is National Youth Leadership Training-Eagle Claw?
The National Youth Leadership Training-Eagle Claw is a six day experience over two weekends conducted by South Florida Council to provide each Scout with a meaningful experience in Scouting that will enhance his knowledge and create a deeper understanding of his role and responsibilities as a leader.

National Youth Leadership Training integrates the best of modern leadership theory with the traditional strengths of the Scouting experience. Through activities, presentations, challenges, discussions, and audio-visual support, National Youth Leader Training participants engage in a unified approach to leadership that gives skill and confidence to lead well.

Objectives:
  • Give participants the confidence and knowledge to conduct the troop program

  • Provide participants with a clear understanding of team and personal development and how those elements relate to being a leader

  • Guide the participants through the stages of team development

  • Create an environment of Scouting fellowship and fun guided by the Scout Oath and Law

  • Give participants the opportunity to share ideas and experiences with Scouts from other troops

  • Have fun and experience Scouting at its best.
