Camp Seminole Update 12/07

Dear Fellow Scouters:

I am pleased to share with you the most recent aerial photographs taken at Camp Seminole. As you can see the land clearing, roads and building pads are progressing steadily as we begin the important rebuilding process. These are very important and exciting times for our local Scouting program and we need every ones “Can do Attitude” to make our dreams a reality. We have adopted a theme in 2008 entitled “One Mission, One Vision and One Movement” and I know together we can accomplish great things.

In early 2008, we will launch an aggressive Capital Development Campaign called Mission Possible to raise the needed funds to rebuild both Camp Seminole and Camp Sawyer. You may be pleased to know, we have already received several lead gifts from generous community donors and the South Florida Council has also made a significant investment of more than $5-million to begin construction. Our objective is to make Camp Seminole and Camp Sawyer the finest Camping facilities in the BSA.

Thank you for all that you do to support Scouting. I am confident with your leadership we can achieve all of our objectives in 2008. It’s going to be an exciting year for our Scouts and for our local Scouting movement! Please feel free to distribute the attached photo’s to your appropriate contacts.

May you and your family have a joyous Holiday Season and a prosperous New Year!

Site Development Starts at Camp Seminole

DOWNRITE ENGINEERING! Downrite is one of our community’s premier land development companies and outstanding corporate citizens. I would like to personally thank Gary Landmesser, Scout leader and employee for Downrite, for approaching his company to assist with this massive clean-up effort. I would also like to thank Downrite’s Owners Sam and Joey LoBue for graciously agreeing to donate their company’s resources to make Camp Seminole operational again.

South Florida Council has received it’s dredge and fill permits. Dredging of the Lake at Camp Seminole has commenced. The lake will be dug to a maximum depth of 20 feet in its deepest part. In addition, two islands will be created for special themed programs.

A temporary nursery has been established to receive 400 fifteen foot oak trees that have been donated. The trees will remain in the nursery until the areas the trees will end up in are at their final grades.

Surveyors are staking out roadways, campsites and building pads. An architectural/privacy berm has been staked and graded along Boy Scout Road
